Mrs. Clara M. Witte who penned the interesting story about her Class of 1907, said she received many interesting comments about the story.
She was complimented further when the officers of the Nebraska City High School Alumni Association decided to enter the story as part of the minutes of the meeting.
''I was on Cloud 9,'' she said in a note the other day.
That class was active. It even had a dispute on the class colors and when the subject of pink and silver came up, one athlete challenged ''now, how'd that look on a football field?''
The class also had a girls basketball team and one of its big nights was in a game against Elmwood. Thanks to the boys in the school, the girls rallied and won. Clair Macin, Latin teacher, was the coach. Mrs. Witte was a guard.
From Tom Hahn
Tom Hahn, former news director at KNCY, was in town for a few days. He has quit the radio news business and instead is doing something he enjoys more - teaching others how to be announcers.
He's at Brown college in Wisconsin. When looking over the roster of students a few months ago, he came upon the name ''Ree Miyoshi.''
There's only one Ree Miyoshi, Tom said and sure nuf' it was the Nebraska Citian. Ree graduated from radio school and has a job in South Dakota.
U.S. Jaycee pres
The election of Barry Kennedy from Pawnee City to the presidency of the U.S. Jaycees is about as fine a compliment as you'll find for the small town life.
Barry is well known in Nebraska City. The local Jaycees put in a lot of hours helping him on his way up the ladder to the U.S. leadership ana they backed it up with money to finance his campaign.
Most of that money came from your entertainment — the Jaycee boxing matches. Congratulations to Barry and especially to the local Jaycees who helped put it over.
Stolen
A couple argued for years about spiritualism and reincarnation. She was a staunch believer in spiritualism and he in reincarnation.
The husband died first. The wife attended even more seances in hope of contacting her deceased male. Finally, one night his voice came through loud and clear. She was overjoyed but couldn't quite keep the I - told you - so out of her voice.
''What's it like there?'' she purred.
''You wouldn't believe it,'' he replied. ''The grass is green, the sky is blue, the creeks are clear and clean and the cows have the loveliest big brown eyes.''
''Cows?'' she said. ''I didn't know there were cows in heaven.''
''Heaven?'' he answered. ''Who's talking about heaven? I'm a bull on a ranch in Montana.''
Growing ..again
Ralph Weddle discovered that once the children are raised and on their own there's only a brief lull before the grandchildren arrive and they get at tention.
For example when it was hot and muggy, guess who went with the grandchildren to the free fireworks display at Steinhart park? You bet, the grandparents. ''Oh what the heck,'' Ralph said. ''We enjoyed it, too.''
No time for trouble
City Utilities office and service personnel have held an appreciation for air conditioning. The system has been ''off'' at the City Utilities office.
Naw, silly, they paid the light bill. It's the mechanical part of the air conditioning system that's on the blink.
Meanwhile they've been keeping their cool at the office building during the sweltering days with electric fans.
The good times
A young mother was bathing her baby as a neighbor's little girl watched. The child was holding a doll under her arms. The doll was lacking an arm and a leg.
''How long have you had your baby?'' asked the little visitor.
''Three months,'' replied the mother.
''My, but you've kept her nice,'' the little visitor said.
