We live in a strange world

I never knew there were so many families in the area with new additions from children's homes until this column was printed a week ago about our new son and daughter.

We share your enjoyment. Thanks to all for your kind words.

It was interesting and saddening to be the sole ear for words from former adoptive parents who told about being forced to give up children by court action.

We live in a strange world. We have a lot of sorrow and happiness in this country over the welfare of children and it seems in Asia and Africa that the lives of little boys and girls are worth much when it comes to dividing the food.

I guess we have a lot to be thankful for in this great country.

Best wishes and much success to Rex and Eunice Snodderly on the purchase of Lollman's School and School Supply store at 719 Central avenue.

Rex is also in business in the Nebraska City Auto Supply at 1120 Central avenue.

We live next door to his brother, Max, and family and see both families often.

Max worked several years as shop manager for Haley's and is now shop manager of a body shop for an Oldsmobile company in Kansas City, Kansas.

They will sell their home and move to Kansas City.

That bright new flag that flies over the entryway to the VFW post home is a gift to the VFW post from Company A guardsmen.

Guard Commander Captain Gary Barrett said the flag is a "salute" to the veterans who fought for peace on foreign soil.

VFW Commander Bill Rivett accepted the flag on behalf of the 259 members, shook the captain's hand and said thanks for the ex-GI's.

One of the most popular places we've visited recently is Johnny Bando's camper sales west of Nebraska City on No. 2.

The Bandos say they have been plenty busy taking care of customers. They have an excellent indoor display area and according to Mrs. Bando, they have prospective buyers at all hours.

Despite the long hours, the Bandos still find time to do some of their own camping. They say one of the closest and nicest places is Waubonsie State park across the river.

That sounds like something we've heard before, only the good things always seem to go unnoticed when they're in your backyard.

Legionnaires of Adam Schellinger Post No. 8 are ready to go with the big July Fourth celebration in Nebraska City.

In addition to the carnival, dance and ball games, there will be games for children. Last year Legionnaires put coins in sawdust and said "go." There was a cloud of dust as the boys and girls dug for the coins.

The celebration will be capped with the fireworks display after dark.
